I moved back to the area 8 years ago upon the birth of our daughter. We wanted to raise her with the same core values we have. I knew we would be forgoing the convienences of metropolitan life. But have been frustrated that nearly a decade later we still can not get modern conviences like high speed internet. I've offered my services voluntarily to attempt to get this service to no avail. I've attempted to work with Verizon. But they don't want to invest in the infrastructure upgrades required. Our voice service has not been updated for probably 20 years. My voice line has been spliced so many times it is a wonder how it still works. I've seen it in the junction boxes. They will do nothing. The satellite alternatives are fine for down loading web pages, etc. But with an upload speed of dial-up what is the use to pay such high rates. Everyone wants to upload photos, large files, etc. The local cable company can provide but they are just now getting cost effective. And you have to take their basic cable package with it. And it is only marginal. I watched the large fiber cables being installed 1000 feet from my house that connects Pittsburh to D.C. and provides high speed to Garrett County government and some businesses. But yet we can't take advantage of this service. It crosses our land but we can't use it. Please Google aid this magnificient county by providing us service. During the recent "snow disaster" I would have loved to have been able to reach ALL of my students via internet. As it was, I could have moved forward in the curriculum with some of my students but resisted the urge to do so because I would have left many of them behind. Even here at SGHS, completing state mandated on-line tests becomes problematic because of limited ban width for the school system. Many suburban counties in Maryland (i.e.- Montgomery Co.) have much better service, access, and interaction with web based activities. I hope our students will be able to compete with students from these counties for advancement in education and their future careers. "

We still pay our taxes, but are not recognized in some areas as regular citizens. PLease give us some attention the lake area gets everything and then some. We deserve "
